How to Grow an Avocado tree....

Avocado tree via Flickr

Who doesn't love Avocado? Sliced on toast with ripe vine tomatoes, a little lemon juice and salt... Mmmmmm, Heaven!! I eat so many of these a week and the Pod goes straight into the compost, but I have a jar, some cocktail sticks and just found some instructions to grow my own tree.

I have been told that I probably wont get any avocado from it, but it is worth a go, and they are pretty trees...

Here are the directions I will be following, if anyone has any handy pointers please comment below.

Directions:
  • Wash all the flesh off the pit, pat dry and set aside for a couple days.
  • After the drying time, remove the skin and insert 3 toothpicks 1/2″ deep into the pit equally distant from each other around the fattest part (circumference).
  • Suspend in a dark glass (pointy side up) with the toothpicks resting on the rim of the glass.
  • Fill the glass with water until the bottom 1/3 of the pit is submerged.
  • Place glass in a sunny spot. Change water every two days so there’s fresh water instead of stagnant.
  • Once you have a 6 inch stem with a couple leaves (this will take several weeks), cut the stem down to 3 inches.
  • Wait several more weeks until you have a few stems with leaves, you’re then ready to plant. The roots should now be about 2″ long.
  • Taking a 10″ diameter pot, fill with good, well draining potting soil (sandy mix works great). Removing the toothpicks, plant the pit roots down (pointy end and stems up), the top of it should be level with the soil surface.
  • When soil is dry, water. Feed regularly with houseplant food once or twice a month.
  • If the leaves turn yellow, you’re watering it too much. If leaves turn brown, you’re not watering enough. If it looks sickly, make sure you’re feeding it.
  • If you want a bushy tree, pinch the leaves after it grows every 6 inches.
  • Can be left outside during the summer months.

Kitchens with big windows

Greenhouse Kitchen : What I would do for this!!!
Kitchen: Big windows, eclectic tiles and pots and pans

Earthship kitchen: Okay I posted this a couple of days ago but it is so beautiful
Greenhouse kitchen/ utility room
When I was 14 I had a friend called Charlotte who had a kitchen with a greenhouse type glass roof. Ever since I first saw that kitchen I have been obsessed with the idea of building and designing my own. Plenty of sunlight, mismatched kitchen surfaces and over looking a beautiful garden..... well I can dream...

Hope you are all having a great week, dont forget to enter the Wild Unknown Tarot Card give away, over 300 entires so far.....The winner will be drawn tomorrow... good luck

Perfect for a small garden, a windowsill or a tiny corner, got to love those Potted plants!

My new home has a pretty small garden with a tiny amount of grass so I have decided to go the potted plant root for my jungle garden theme. I have just brought myself a Casteroil plant for my garden and I am so in love with him. I have wanted one for so long. Next a Rhus...

.... Got this song on repeat...

Plenty of cushions,  large ethnic rugs, plants and a bookcase bursting at the seams, my idea of a perfect siting room! The top one is my favourite I love wooden homes and leather furniture.

I have had lots of emails asking where to buy home wears, I though rather than produce a list I thought I would try and put together some little themed purchases after some of the posts with a variety of shops and price ranges, hopefully there will be something for all budgets. If there is anything you would like me to seek out drop me an email  moontomoon@live.co.uk

p.s You will have to excuse my photoshop skills, I will try and brush up my skills (you would never believe I did a photography degree would you?)

I love the hanging Terrariums and the crystal hanging from the one on the right

About 3 months ago I forgot to bid on a beautiful terrarium on ebay and have been so annoyed with myself ever since. I have been collecting a few images on my pinterest account for a while now and although I was looking for a vintage bargain I have fallen in Love with these beautiful Terrarium and planters from Canadian Terrarium maker Score and Solder. I have totally fallen for the suspended teardrop (below) and am so tempted to splash out and buy myself one as a moving in present.

In the white room ....

I come from family that growing up were in love with wallpaper. Usually Laura ashley, William Morris and Sanderson prints. Not just in one room, but every room had its own print complete with matching curtains, trimmings, tie backs, cushions and bed covers. The wall paper was usually eccentric and opulent and suits my parents perfectly, they would not have been happy with magnolia.

For me though, living in rented accommodation for the last 12 years, I have come to long for white walls. My new house has a hideous feature wall in brown, that is made worse by the wardrobe shaped blue square on one side (soooooo Lazy!) that i will have to paint over. With white you can always spruce it up with Mexican throws, artwork, bookcases or cushions and the all important Houseplant. Even my parents are now starting to play it a little more "safe".

What do you guys think, are you confident with wallpaper or playing it safe with white?
